Gem Mining
Many locations but our favorite is in Franklin where we have mined a 17 carat emerald and a 20 carat Ruby.
Fun for the entire family and everyone leaves with "treasures".
Hiking and Water Falls
Some 19 falls in the area and hiking trails are well marked. My personal favorite is Whitewater Falls, only 13 miles from Cashiers. It is higher than Niagara Falls and the highest falls in eastern U.S. Hiking trails are available but hiking is not necessary to view the falls.
- Cashiers Sliding Rock Falls – Natures waterslide is perfect for children.

Lake Glenville
( 1/2 mile down the mountain from the home.)
Lake Information: The lake is 6 miles long with 26 miles of shore line fed by three (3) waterfalls. The average depth is 100 feet. Located at 3500 feet in elevation, it is the highest man made lake this side of the Rockies. For a sight seeing trip on the lake to see all the watter falls and exceptional homes, reserve from 2-3 hours. Small Islands are accesable for picnics. If fishing is part of your vacation plans, a fishing license is required and may be purchased at Signal Ridge Marina or online at www.ncwildlife.org
Sight Seeing
The Blue Ridge Parkway has some of the most beautiful mountain views in the entire country. The parkway is a well maintained 2 lane highway with frequent overlooks and points of interest. The nearest entry is in Sylva, NC, just on the other side of our mountain. I suggest traveling west towards Cherokee for a great days outing, stopping for lunch and shopping in Cherokee. The Cherokee Indian Reservation and Casino are popular attractions.
